Q. Who can come to the Academy?
A. All students that currently attend Tamarside Community College will be guaranteed a place at the Academy.
Q. When will the Academy open and where will it be built?
A. Tamarside will open as an Academy in the existing buildings but with a new name in September 2010 and the new building which is proposed will open in September 2012.
Q. How will students benefit from the Academy?
A. The Sponsor wants to provide the best educational opportunities for students so that they reach their full potential, regardless of background and abilities.
The Academy will be welcoming, friendly and supportive for staff, students and visitors.
There will be strong and daily emphasis on values such as self respect, respect for others and self discipline.
Parents and carers will also be actively encouraged to get involved in school life and the education of their children so they understand the expectations of what they should be learning and the progress they are making at the Academy.
Personal achievement will be valued as much as national attainment and students will own and manage their success by setting their own targets and goals in consultation with teaching staff. There will be many opportunities to learn and achieve with academic, vocational qualifications having equal status.
Many people learn best in a practical environment through skills based approaches. Practical skills alongside functional, creative and academic opportunities will be offered.
Q. How will families and the wider Community benefit from the Academy?
A. The Academy will have an open and inclusive environment where parents and carers are encouraged to actively engage in the education of their child.
There will be opportunities for families and people from the local community to enjoy a range of facilities and services such as learning, sports, cultural, health and social care.
